Once your pool has had its initial dose of chlorine it is essential you test your pool water. If you don't test the water you risk an incorrect chlorine level. A high chlorine level will bleach bathing costumes and may cause skin irritation, whilst a low chlorine level will lead to algae and bacteria forming in the water. During the summer this should be done daily or even twice a day if your pool is experiencing a high bather load.

To test the water take 1 free chlorine test strip and dip it into your pool and remove, wait 15 seconds and compare the colour pads on the strip with the colour chart on the side of the bottle.

The table above indicates the required levels for an above ground pool. If any of your results are out of range them some small alterations will be needed.

• High Chlorine Level - If your chlorine level is too high (above 5ppm) then make sure you take the dispenser out of the water or alternatively do not add anymore granules. If the chlorine level is over 10ppm do not use the pool. The chlorine level will gradually decrease over time so keep testing the chlorine level at regular intervals and wait for it to come back down to the required level before re-entering the pool.
• Low Chlorine Level - If your chlorine level is too low then more chlorine needs to be added. If you are using a dispenser open the collar so it releases more chlorine into the water and if necessary add more tablets to the dispenser. If using granules add more chlorine granules into the water.
